You should also seriously consider Simple Press Forum. This is an excellent plugin, but the bloating it causes on the server lag gives me concern.

That’s a good point. You can write about what interests you, or learn what your visitors are interested in and write about that.

The latter will prove far more successful any day.

Forums also build a community of readers outside of your content, I know of blogger who have forums who then use the conversation going on there as a post generator.

Personally, I prefer Vbulletin & phpBB to all of the other solutions (there are probably at least 8-10 other programs available)

I do agree that adding a forum is a valuable addition to any website. It gives visitors a reason to come back regularly and contribute, which also increases your page views, and give people a reason to link to your site that may not otherwise.
